Chow Bella x Nole Pizza Illustration Canvas
薄餅 (pizza) 大 (big) 過 (than) 天 (heaven)
After a slightly challenging and drawn out conversation with our Cantonese father, our heads slightly bowed in shame since we can’t speak the language, we arrived on this literal translation of the phrase. Cantonese is littered with idioms and expressions that can’t really be translated, but to spare you a gruelling thirty minute phone call with our Dad, it essentially means Pizza: the best thing since sliced bread - although know it reads far more poetically than that.
This artwork commemorates our Chow Bella Pizza Special that was served across ten Nole Pizza sites across the South West of England. Nole, the owners dog, who either named the pizza shop or was named after the pizza shop (who knows) sits beside a Chinese Emperor, chowing down on our Ginger Pork and Water Chestnut slice. It’s… perfect.
Designed by the talented artist and designer, and fortunately our friend, Alice McNeil.
This 8x8 inch canvas print is your reminder that heritage is important, regardless of where its from. It tells you that the blending of cultures is exciting, and is to be celebrated. It says to thank the people that raised you for creating the mix that you are. Display it somewhere you see every day.
